Stop the Bot from Lincoln
A completely New Innovation -
Bots are an internal parasite which effect horses and result from the female Bot fly laying her eggs. Horse owners know how unsightly bot eggs can look on the legs, abdomen and throat of a horse, plus the potential health problems that can occur from their subsequent ingestion. Bots (Gasterophilus) are insect larvae that involve internal development as part of their life cycle.
Whilst many modern horse wormers are effective in eliminating the problem after ingestion and development of the eggs, we at Lincoln have added a new weapon to the arsenal of horse owners to help prevent the eggs being laid and ingested.
Lincoln Stop the Bot is a new triple action formula that can be sprayed on to the forelegs and abdomen of horses to help prevent the potential problem.
Firstly Lincoln Stop the Bot is a powerful fly repellent containing 20% DEET, which repels the female Bot fly which in itself is an irritation to the horse without the addition of the bot eggs.
Secondly the unique silicones in Lincoln Stop the Bot prevent the eggs from the Bot fly sticking to the coat of the horse.
Finally a powerful, bitter but safe flavouring deters the horse from licking any eggs and so ingesting them.
The danger that Bots can do to the horse should not be underestimated. Once the horse has ingested the eggs they burrow into the base of the tongue and below the gum line. After approximately one month, during which time they double in size, migration to the stomach takes place where they adhere to the stomach wall and develop into full grown Bots.
Bots can give rise to ulcers in the stomach and can be especially dangerous to young horses where the stomach lining is thinner. Left untreated Bots would pass out in the faeces after about 10 months, continuing their lifecycle by pupating and emerging as Bot flies once again.
Lincoln Stop the Bot is not an alternative to worming horses but specifically developed to prevent and reduce the likely incidence and ingestion of Bot eggs. It eliminates the need to use Bot knives that will undoubtedly please horse owners young and old.
Lincoln Stop the Bot is available in a 500ml ergonomically designed spray bottle and should be applied specifically to the abdomen, throat and legs of the horse. The key times for Bot flies are mid to late summer.
